Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds, leading to globally recognized and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications. Schools worldwide have helped develop Cambridge IGCSE, which provides excellent preparation for the Cambridge Advanced stage including Cambridge International AS and A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U, as well as other progression routes. It incorporates the best in international education for learners at this level. It develops in line with changing needs, and is regularly updated and extended. Cambridge IGCSE teachers can draw on excellent resources, training and advice from subject experts.

Cambridge IGCSE encourages learner-centered and enquiry-based approaches to learning. It develops learners’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education. Schools can build a core curriculum, extend it to suit their learners and introduce cross-curricular perspectives. Clearly defined learning outcomes and content, mean Cambridge IGCSE is compatible with other curricula and is internationally relevant and sensitive to different needs and cultures.

Cambridge IGCSE develops learner knowledge, understanding and skills in:

· Subject content

· Applying knowledge and understanding to familiar and new situations

· Intellectual enquiry

· Flexibility and responsiveness to change

· Working and communicating in English

· Influencing outcomes

· Cultural awareness

Stella Maris International School offers 6 subjects of the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education): English Syllabus 0510, Mathematics Syllabus 0580, Combined Science Syllabus 0653, Bahasa Indonesia Syllabus 0545, Geography Syllabus 0460, and Business Studies Syllabus 0450.

Year 10 students who wish to take the Bahasa Indonesia exam can sit for that exam in October. The other five subjects offered will be taken in the Summer session which will be in May/June 2012

To prepare students for the IGCSE exams, Stella Maris International School arranges 3 Mock Tests (one every term) to check their progress before they take the real exams. The results of the Mock Tests will be discussed with the students during lessons, enabling students to learn from their mistakes and hence improve the results. After the three mock tests, students will be more than ready for the real test since they will be familiar with the type of questions and how to provide the correct answers.
